What a contrast!
While today, Saturday, is lovely here in Melbourne, Australia, with an expected a maximum of 73°, starting on Christmas the next few days are forecast to reach 86°, 84°, 97° & 93° before dropping back to maxima of 66° & 73° on Thursday & Friday. The Tuesday night minimum is expected to be 77°. (Yes, I remember the silly temperature scale and can use it!) This just qualifies as a heat wave, the definition of which includes unusually high minima, but we often get a couple of heat waves a year featuring multiple maxima over 100°. I'm fortunate enough to be able to heat my home and dress well enough to enjoy the cold (although Melbourne rarely gets below freezing), however curiously, my current home is the first I've lived in that has air conditioning. Like so many Australians of my generation, we're used to just coping with the heat.
