The Kimsy scale is simply an evil plot to control the universe! I know, I read it in People Magazine, Universe Edition. As for the term crossdresser versus trans, I suspect trans is more socially acceptable in a bottle of the barrel sense to a lot of the typical gender people. (Was gonna say Muggles, then rethought it, screw you JK! :p) At the very least I think cross dresser has a more 'in the closet' connotation. Jenn, after careful consideration, I'd label you as, um . . . "Jenn" or in more formal situations, "Jennifer." It's the only side I've seen as I recall.

Yes, Jen is all you kno and that's an example of how I like that side of me. Mixing both would be confusing to friends and family. I think "trans" is just more understood. Not that people like it, but they can grasp the concept. With "crossdresser" I think there is a very negative connotation and people think of it as much closer to "pervert." My goal in being out in the world is to change minds one at a time. And that is done through positive interactions. Case in point:

Crossdresser may be one of the terms that's falling out of favor as new terms such as non binary and gender fluid come into use. The term crossdressing is starting to be thought of as a fetish only, especially by younger trans people. To be clear, I'm not saying all those that call themselves crossdressers are fetishists, just that I believe its beginning to be seen that way. It was a term I used to describe myself in the past though now that I've figured out that it wasn't that, I don't like to use it to describe my past.

Yup. I find that cross-dressing is not an appropriate term for a transgender person wearing clothing that corresponds to their gender identity.

I spent over half a century cross-dressing as male, and even passed much of the time. I had a pretty good idea even when young just who I really was, though, and was socialized as a transgender person, trying to perform as male while deathly afraid someone would discover my true nature.

After coming out to my work colleagues, the only male member of staff wanted to clarify that I crossdressed all the time I was at home. I told him no, I crossdressed all the time I was at work so he wouldn't be uncomfortable around me. I was me at home. It took a few seconds to sink in, but he then understood.

Hugs,

Allie
