@Michelle_P , Linde’s views are her own and do not represent the views of the management of this site. Any policy or position of the management of this site comes from discussion and agreement of the managment group, and will usually be announcd by Katie. There is no way we would oppose advocacy of trans events like Transgender Awaerness Week or Transgender Day of Rememberence. I regret Linde’s words have caused discomfort among our members, and apologise. Linde does lack filters and I hope you can all give her some latitude as we are here to hopefully support everybody.

Sorry,

Allie

I have had other LGBTQ+ folks tear into me for:
Michelle, by no means did I intended to tear into you, I just said that I have no connection to this kind of work you do, I just can't relate to it! None of the points you listed ever happened to me. Could be that i have not enough contacts with people making these statements?
I’m not here to offend people, or somehow be someone else’s unwanted spokesperson. Honestly, there are just some folks who were hanging out here that I enjoyed chatting with. I don’t want my presence here to be a problem, or cause distress in others.
You neither cause distress or offend people or anything similar. I enjoy your thoughts about transnes, I just have a different opinion on some.
I thought we had a critical discussion, and not a shooting session against each other!
If I came across this way, I would like to apologize, it was not intended.

Hugs

Thank you, Linde.

Yes, I have opinions that differ from many. I’m aware of this, and do not seek to make others uncomfortable. I’ve participated in groups that took a turn in directions I could not support, and my association with these groups was ended in various ways. It’s not a big deal to me.

I voiced what I was sensing was another such difference, wanting to check if there was some objection or difficulty with my activism. Raising the issue of a difference of opinion combined with mentioning that one is a founder of a site is often seen as a difference between site policy and an individual, and at at least one site was a prelude to an almost instant ban.

I raised the issue to verify whether my being an activist/trainer on LGBTQ and trans issues in particular might be a problem here. I am happy to understand that it is not a problem.

Well, let's see:
  • My wife was just diagnosed with cancer and we have been very busy scheduling doctor visits and going to them
  • We have six children, and I am caring for them when my wife is at doctor appointments
  • I have a busy career selling capital equipment and tons of businesses have leftover unspent capital budgets, and are now trying to spend those budgets before year's end
  • Our children's school district has been closed due to highest in the nation Covid rates, and they are engaged in distance learning from home now.
So, yeah, I have a lot of distractions that would keep me from being aware of calendar events and holidays.
OMG! This is uncredible! You are so strong! Wow!! I will think about when I feel like my life is complicated and remember quickly it is not. I wish you and your wife a success in this battle and you to keep the strength you have. You are a wonderful woman and I'm so grateful over all of this you take the time to carry about strangers by putting your work in this community.

I often answer stuff quickly without knowing enough the person I am replying to. I think I should had write "it's ok to forget that kind of stuff you should have many other preoccupation" instead of adding useless details.

I will pray for your family.

I love you 😘

I just got the following email from the ceo of my government department. This nomination is in part due to the inclusion work I have done within government this past year, but also for my involvement in Trans Groups both here in Australia, and Intenationally (Trans Refuge and Susan's) I don't know if I will win, but just being nominated for my efforts in Trans inclusion tells me I have had an impact. This is part of my having a 365 day Trans Awareness Week!

Hugs,

Allie

Dear Allie,

Congratulations!

I’m delighted to let you know that you’ve been nominated for a VFA staff award in recognition of your work this year. The VFA Board Chair and Directors, the Executive and myself invite you to the award ceremony being held via Teams next Tuesday 24 Nov, 10am-12pm.
There are only 5 categories for awards and we’ve had 40 nominations of VFA staff going ‘above and beyond’. I’m thrilled that your work has been recognised. A general email to all staff will follow shortly with all nominees in each category. You have been nominated for: (Category 5) Leading diversity
I hope to see you on Tuesday via Teams for the on-line ceremony to celebrate with all the other nominees, the VFA Board Chair and Board Directors, and the Executive. Along with the nominees, there will be many of our VFA colleagues taking the opportunity to join us in this first ‘virtual’ VFA Staff Awards.
It is amazing how we’ve delivered our work and maintained our ‘can-do’ approach, kept our good humour and spirit, and looked out for one another, all during this unprecedented year. You have been a big part of that and I’d like to thank you for your efforts.
Your nomination is a formal acknowledgement of your work and it’s something to be proud of.

Congratulations on your nomination. I am sure you earned it. I wonder if the US might have such a thing once the big orange crybaby gets evicted from the White House in January.

It used to be that the US was more forward thinking than the Aussies. Then, a bunch of dumb asses put Trump in office.

I think the board of directors vote so who knows how it will go. Last year they held a gala dinner in Melbourne for the awards, so this year I have to dress up nicely for a Teams presentation.... It is all about recognition of trans education, and I am very proud of the support my department has given already. The award recognises our team and helps a bit when funding is decided on in the next round. Now I need to learn how to curl my hair again!!!

Hugs,

Allie

I justly didn't with the award I was nominated for, as the team who helped in the bushfire tragedy in Australia earlier this year, and then put in enormous efforts into community recovery, were most worthy. But being nominated in such prestigious company showed the acceptance and support from my government department, and the Australian community as a whole, and I am honoured by that acknowledgement. It isn't about getting awards, but changing and reinforcing attitudes, and I'm proud to say I have been a part of that!

Hugs,

Allie
