I had a session with my therapist recently and he asked how I was doing as far as taking my estrogen. He periodically will touch base with that question to see if I’m ok about the changes or lack thereof.

I said there wasn’t much that I could see in any changes. I told him it seems as though I’m stalled and if there are any, they seem to be going extremely slowly. I said I’m fine with that and actually love the slow, steady pace I’m on.

Then I said , “well there has been one change that I’ve kind of noticed that’s been coming on for a couple of months off and on but it seems to be more consistent... my sense of smell seems better; or like it’s stronger or picks up different smells stronger.”

I then asked him if any of his other trans clients have mentioned this amd he said no. But then he rarely if ever shares anything at all about his other clients which is comforting in a way but also frustrating.

So. I ask you ladies and transfemme enbies who are on estrogen... have y’all noticed your sense of smell get better? Kinda wonder if it’s just an old transgirl tale or if I’m losing my mind.

Birdie, most of the trans female people I have spoken to report an increase in their sense of smell on HRT. Mine has increased significantly! This has been both good and bad.

I, and many others also report feeling the cold a lot more, different body odor, being more sensitive to others feelings, and getting shorter, plus smaller feet on some! My optometrist says my eyesight has actually improved on HRT!

Hugs,

Allie

I think it is a pretty much proven fact, that the sense of smell, and taste, which goes hand on hand with smell, has improved/changed, and is in line with natal femals, once a trans woman is long enough on estrogen.
Also the color discrimination of the eyes seems to improve, one is able to see a larger variety of shades of colors. Evolution might have caused this. Because females were the gatheres, and very often had to rely on the color shade of a berry to determine if it is edible or not.
Of course anybody knows about the changes in emotions, I for one turned into a cry baby.

I noticed the color discrimination thing almost immediately. Smell, not so much, I always had a sensitive sense of smell.

Hello again Birdie

I noticed an improvement in my sense of smell after a few months on HRT. I pick up body odours both good and bad including my own which has changed over the 37 months of HRT.

I know not if it is hormone related but I also feel the cold more.

Hugs

I noticed the sense of smell and color perception change within a month. My body odor changed. I am definitely more emotional. I am also much more affected by the cold now. I don't know if this came from hormones or weight loss. I'm glad I don't live where I grew up. It was colder there.

I have experienced this just from the loss of testosterone and I don't know if it will increase when I get estrogen.

Hugs,
Mike

Well I feel pathetic now. I have not experienced any of those. The only thing I did notice is I hardly ever sweat now so don’t need deodorant plus hair is softer.

Hi Birdie! Definitely an improved sense of smell and less/different body odor too. I feel the cold for about half of the week, but I start to warm up during the later part of the week, up to my next injection.

Hugs!

I have always ran hot, and that did not change with HRT. I still sweat like an electric pig in any weather over 70 degrees. I am a cold weather woman, through and through.

Best christmas present of my mom: A hot-water bag...

One of the very few things I'll miss from my past: warm feet 🥶 brrrrrrrrrrrrr

Can't say that my sense of smell has increased, but I definitely begin to recognize that I smell stuff through my corona-mask, maybe it's a sign? 💩

There is a simple answer for!
But the hormone oestrogen also has a big impact because it has the side effect of thickening the blood slightly. This reduces blood flow to the tiny capillaries supplying the extremities.
A 1998 study at the University of Utah found that this can mean women have hands, feet and ears that are 3°C colder than a man’s.

Why do women feel the cold more than men?

Enhanced by people who tend to drink less on a day. The less fluid you intake the thicker your blood gets: similar and enhancing effect.

Drink up me hearties! :coffee:

And so is your stool! And once you had bottom surgery, you learn very fast to avoid this!

Hard for me to say as I also quit smoking which is meant to come with an improvement of your sense of smell but I would lean towards saying yes. This happened for me when my body odor changed and I didn't stink like a sweaty man anymore but I also noticed I was sensitive to smells that I had not been before. I can smell sweeter smells more and the smell of raw meat makes me wanna barf sometimes and so I would say that it has changed.

A dramatic change I experienced, was my taste for certain foods. I really loved to drink beer (after all, I was born and raised in Germany, where beer is considered to be a food staple).

I liked beer so much that I bought my very own tapping system (a kegerator kegerator costco - Google Search).

About 6 or 7 years ago, I started to dislike beer more and more, until I could not stand the taste of it anymore. Well I switched to wine, but I disliked this very soon thereafter, too. These days I don't drink ay alcohol anymore, and became a real big teetotaler. Just imagine, a German who does not like alcoholic beverages! What a terrible thing that is!

My sense of smell and taste became markedly "sharper" around 2 months into Hormone Replacement Therapy. I was having dinner in a very nice steakhouse, a nice rare filet mignon, and their sweet potato side dish. The taste was much more intense than the previous visit there, and I really got into it. Really, really got into it... Orgasm.

Yah. I know. "I'll have what she's having." :ROFLMAO:
