Hello all,

I have a very unusual diet that I've been trying. It's the potato diet. I bought a bag of potatoes a couple of weeks ago and noticed that each tater only had 120 calories. These were big baking potatoes and it would only take one to fill me up. So I started eating about 3 or 4 of those a day. I'm kind of a "bland" eater anyway, so I don't put hardly anything on them. A little bit of low calorie butter, some salt and pepper is all I need to be happy.

I wasn't sure how well the diet would work, but I can tell you it's starting to show some promise. I've lost 8 pounds so far in 13 days. I also wasn't sure if the diet was good for me, so I did a Google asking if it was healthy to only eat potatoes...guess what? It is healthy and it's also an established diet.

Penn Jillette had a heart attack a while back and his doctors told him to lose weight. He did it with a potato diet. He lost 100 pounds in 4 months. Now I don't need to lose quite that much weight, but I think I'll lose every once I need to lose on this diet. Hopefully I can stay strong and stick with it. So far so good. I only need to lose about 70 more pounds to be where I need to be.

If anyone tries this diet let me know how it works for you.

Good job on the weight loss! Just be careful about blood sugar. A diet consisting entirely of starch may not be very healthy in the long run.

I would check into the amount of complete protein in the diet. If there isn't enough, your body will salvage what it needs from somewhere else. As the heart is muscle/protein, there is a risk of serious health issues. You can obtain complete protein from a plant based diet but you have to watch what you eat. If you don't mind a little meat, consider chicken, fish and eggs.

if you eat the skins you are getting a fair number of vitamins, but you might want to consider a supplement. As you have found, potatoes have a bad reputation but it's not their fault. The problem is what gets piled on top. Cheese, sour cream, butter, bacon and gravy can end up adding more calories than the potato contains.

Potatoes combined with a bit of dairy or meat on occasion contains everything you need nutrition wise.  You do need to eat the skins of the taters though.

Hello all,

I forgot to add that I also started taking a one a day vitamin that has a lot of stuff in it...at least that's what the bottle claims. For all I know it could be filled with the crushed souls of roaches or something.

I will occasionally throw in some scrambled eggs. I didn't do this by design however, it was just a lucky guess...I guess. Sometimes I'll eat the skins if they're the good kind. If you're a potato connoisseur like I'm becoming then you know that some skins are good and some are bad. My palette lets me know when I have a good one, and when I do I eat it.

Thank you all for the advice!!

A "french fry diet" is what led to the "before" photo  in my before and after pics.

And what a lovely flavor they provide. Kind of a smoky, lettuce taste.

Some sort of roughage and fibre needs to in there as well, maybe oats for breakfast, celery with meals or between meals, mixed garden greens or spinach in there as well. This is what happens if you ask a diet wanker like me (lol).

Hi @Kirsteneklund7

Before I comment on your salad I just wanted to tell you that I LOVE your avatar pic. Girl you're looking GREAT!! I think that's the very best picture I've ever seen of you.

Okay now to that salad. I'm the world's pickiest eater, so please don't take offense to this, but I couldn't find even one thing in there that I'd put anywhere near my mouth. Well if those are tomatoes I'd probably eat those, but nothing else. Me being a picky eater is kinda weird considering I'll eat something that's grown in the ground and is so dirty when I buy it that I have to scrub it with a brush to clean it...but it's true.  ;D ;D

When I make a salad it consists of the lighter colored lettuce, some sprinkle cheese, a few sprinkles of hard boiled egg, cherry tomatoes, and fat free French dressing. That's all I'll put one my salads. When I said the lighter colored lettuce I'm talking about the lettuce that you get after you peel the greener leaves off of a head. If it's too green I won't eat it. :-[

Now just writing that makes me really wish I had the makings for a salad. I might have to head over to Walmart and do some shopping.  ;D

Lexxi being a picky eater can be used to your advantage. You know you have  calories nailed. Sticking to a good diet will be straight forward for you. Plant foods are our friend for losing bulk
And thank you I have been keeping weight off.  Having breasts is a big one for me, it helps with the man in a dress syndrome Im trying to overcome.

But Lexxi I want to hear all about your development with diet, HRT, breasts and arse and figure. I know it is happening as we speak !

Hi @Kirsteneklund7

Since you asked I think I'll give you a full report. Well I was doing really well on my diet for quite a while, and had lost 8 pounds. But I got on my scale yesterday and was saddened to see that I had not only gained that back, but I added two more to it over the holidays. So starting today I'm going right back to my strict potato diet. Normally once I set my mind on doing something I find out a way to make it happen. I'm going to do whatever I have to do to lose weight.

I want to lose my extra weight because I think it will make me look much more feminine, but there's another super important reason for doing so. I won't be able to have my GCS until I lose at least 60 pounds. And since I want that surgery more than any other thing I've ever wanted in my life, I'll do whatever I have to do to make my dream come true...even if it appears that I'm starving myself (which I won't be).

I'm with you on how much I want real breasts. Mine are very small but they're growing. I definitely have to wear a bra when I go out in public, but that's just because my nipples are so big they don't look like they belong to a male. They're all female for sure, and when the bright lights come on they're really prominent too. My padded bras hide them fairly well, but I'm so happy to say that I can still see them through it. That is so affirming to me and I'm over the moon happy about that. I can't wait until I can feel them bounce when I walk.

As far as the rest of my body I have noticed that I'm definitely losing muscle mass in my arms and shoulders. I don't think other people would be able to tell it yet, but I sure can. They still look manly, but since they're shrinking it's giving me some hope.

I've noticed that I'm starting to gain some mass right above my hips, but it's very minimal. Oh and my inner thighs are for sure gaining some flab. Which I'm not happy about, but it's definitely more female looking. I'm only 6 months in right now, but I'm happy about the direction I'm heading.

I've been taking Biotin and you wouldn't believe how good it is for your nails and hair. It's like a miracle vitamin or something. My hair and nails are looking REALLY good and super healthy. My hair is down past my collar now and I'm having an incredibly hard time keeping my hands out of it. It just feels so good!! It's soft, thick and silky smooth. Oh and it's long enough now that I can actually put it in a ponytail. I've been too embarrassed to wear it that way outside the house though. At Christmas my nephew was braiding my daughter's hair and I desperately wanted him to do mine too, but I was too ashamed to ask. Maybe the next time I see him I'll be brave enough to ask.

My nails are so strong now that when they get long I can't even bend them. Sadly about 2 and a half weeks ago one of them decided to seriously harm itself. I was surfing the internet and it made its way right into my mouth where it proceeded to trim itself right down to a nub. Unbeknownst to me, and not to be outdone, 8 of her sisters followed suit. That left me with only one long nail...but they're growing back so that makes me happy. I've vowed to keep them out of my mouth from now on no matter what!!

The only downside to having long nails is trying to type on my computer keyboard. My fingernails were well over the top of my fingers so it was the nails that hit the keys, and they kept sliding off of them. I tried to find some kind of silicone key covers that I could put on my keyboard, but I've not had any luck finding anything like that. There must be something out there though for girls with long nails.

Okay and the last update: for all of my life I've been told that I look like my dad. Which always pissed me off because I've never liked my dad. But I certainly can't deny that I'm his kid...sadly we look a lot alike. But a couple of months ago I was having a good day and I was investigating my face in the mirror. Do you know what I caught a glimpse of in there??? My MOM. I could actually see little glimpses of my mom in my own face...and I was thrilled!!! I've always thought my mom was very pretty and I will be lucky if I can start to look like her. I hope one day soon she'll start to recognize it too.

As far as my HRT goes, well my doctor increased my dosage quite a bit. At my last blood draw my Estradiol was 842 pg/mL on the 5th day after my shot. My doctor was thrilled, but I thought it was way too high. So without telling her I've lowered it back down. If my calculation is correct my level next time should be right around 700, which is where Dr. Powers keeps his patients. When my level was at the highest level my breasts quit hurting. Once I lowered my level the pain came back. So I think the lower level is the best. Only time will tell though.

Okay I think that just about covers everything you asked about. I hope you don't mind reading this book, haha. I'll talk to ya later. Have a Happy New Year!!!

xoxo

When people see a picture of my mother atclose to my age, they always ask if she is my twin sister!  I was lucky that way!

Just remember Powers is not an endocrinologist, and he does stuff on a trial and error base!  The endocrinology department of the Mayo clinic wants me to be around 300 +- 50 pg/ml, because higher levels do not gurantie any better developemnt, but are inceasing the chance of DVT pretty much.

I also would like to draw your attention to a paper from the UCSF Transgender care department
Many transwomen are interested in estrogen through injection. Estrogen injections tend to cause very high and fluctuating estrogen levels which can cause mood swings, weight gain, hot flashes, anxiety or migraines. Additionally, little is known about the effects of these high levels over the long term. If injections are used, it should be at a low dose and with an understanding that there may be uncomfortable side effects, and that switching off of injections to other forms may cause mood swings or hot flashes.

Contrary to what many may have heard, you can achieve the maximum effect of your transition with relatively small doses of estrogen. Taking high doses does not necessarily make changes happen quicker it could, however, endanger your health

https://transcare.ucsf.edu/article/information-estrogen-hormone-therapy
Please make surre that your get your blood tests doe regularly, and watch out for any unusual pains in your limbs, specifically in your calfs!
Our member Christine can tell you a story about that!

Hi Lexxi,
Near a computer right now, great to hear how things are going for you. I like reading this mini- novel !
To lose 60 pounds for GRS is BIG incentive ! Christmas/ New Year doesn't matter much we all ate & drank too much. Once the weight starts to move more motivation and consistency will automatically come to play as well. I think Allie has been losing weight for health, feminine figure and GRS as well, I bet she could pass on some of the "good oil" for weight loss as well.

With breast growth, I think Estrogen first for growth and then see the Endo for Progesterone later for a boost, I found that was good for a B- cup.

That is great news about Biotin & Hair and nails as well, do you use pure olive oil or flax-seed oil or fish oil in the diet as well
to help skin, nails, hair ? Isn't it such a good feeling to notice the improvement in hair, skin and nails ?!

Also Lexxi, how does the E feel for you? Do you find the dose provides noticeable light euphoria and emotional perception is quite different ?

I am listening closely for developments in your figure and overall feminisation, please keep up the reports ! Have you also done all the baseline measurements to track your progress ? eg shoulders, bust, band, waist, hips ect.

Wishing you best progress with it all Lexxi,

                                        Kirsten XX.

Hi Lexxi! This is an interesting diet for sure. I just wanted to mention that potatoes are high in potassium, along with tomatoes, avocados, bananas etc... Of course all my favorite foods right. MTF HRT often includes Spiro, which is also high in potassium. So they say high amount of potassium in our systems is bad. So we should use caution if taking spiro while using the potato diet. I am on spiro and can't try this diet at this time but will be having GRS sometime in March. No more spiro! YAY!

I could certainly see myself sticking to a diet like this as I love potatoes tomatoes avocados, bananas, eggs etc..... Oh that did it! Now I'm hungry. Good luck with your diet Lexxi.

Hugs!

Donica, just let me do a little correction here about Spiro.  Spiro itself is a diuretic and does not contain any potassium.  But it is pretty unique among diuretics by bein potassium sparing.  Which means, it draws water out of the body, but leaves the potassium alone.  If we now add potassium rich foods, the potassium level in the body can get so high that it can do irreparable damage to the endocrine system of the body, mainly to the kidneys.

Yes, anybody who is on spiro or similar diuretics has to watch their food intake for potassium, and would be advised to not eat such foods.

And I can ensure you that life without testosterone is pretty good, as long as you don't try to be a macho guy!
Hugs

Hi Donica,

Luckily for me I never took Spiro. I had heard way too many bad things about it, so on @Linde's recommendation I asked for Finasteride instead. I had a tiny bit of thinning hair on my crown and she said it would help with that so that's the only anti-androgen I've ever taken.

I hope you got you something good to eat though. I haven't eaten anything yet today, but it'll be potatoes for me again. Luckily I LOVE potatoes though, so I hope there wont' be any kind of burnout.

I would love to try the potato diet, but I know my blood sugar would go through the roof. I'm not really overweight, but I used to be when I was younger. For me, a low sodium diet works best. It's amazing how much sodium is in almost everything. Track your intake for a day and see how you compare to the recommended amount.

Lexxi, how's your diet going? I saw you mention the other day that you were eating salads. Did you decide to add salads in with potatoes, or did you stop the potato diet?

It looks like Katie ellen and I have more than our names in common. I also can't eat potatoes because of blood sugar.

In regard to spiro vs finasteride, I take both. I have had zero side effects from spiro and somehow escaped all of the stomach discomfort, fatigue, etc. that others report with it. I gave Finasteride a try to see if it would help my hair. It did. My hair is fuller, my hairline moved forward a bit, and my hair now grows super fast!
