Nothing has not changed at all with my customers, they see me as a normal person still.I do heavy equipment and farm equipment repair at my shop and mobile.Admit I was a little nervous at first coming out to them and I was surprised they took it well saying I am going to be Cassie fulltime. It has been positive all the way,say I am the same person but much happier. Before some of my customers noticed I was unhappy at times. One customer said it to me,can't hold it in the closet for a long time one day and she was right knowing it.My vendors too, call me Cassie. One has been with my long time Snap On tool dealer,he knew me as male and we have a great vendor/customer relationship still.I am glad this has been happening

Cassie, I was in the heavy equipment field too, as a Detroit Deisel and Allison Transmission specialist, but even before coming out, I experienced “glass ceiling” where I was overlooked for promotion as I was seen as too soft. The industry here was very testosterone driven, and after 32 years, I left that industry to begin my transition. So I can appreciate your challenge to continue at your job while transitioning to be your true self!

Hugs,

Allie

That’s awesome! It’s good to hear stories of acceptance and for everyone to know that it’s possible for us to lead normal, happy; satisfying lives. It’s nice to just go about day to day activities as our true selves. Congrats on your success :))

The industry I work in is very male dominated, but not super macho. Think really nerdy guys. And we do have some successful women, including the president of the company.

I was really worried about coming out and what reaction my customers would have. My customers tend to be more on the blue collar side. We make laser technology, but our customers tend to work in factories. And here in the Midwest, people in general aren't known for being super accepting of transgender people.

So far, nearly everyone has been very accepting. I've only had one customer who showed visual some indications of being uncomfortable. I had just had a laser hair removal session two days prior, and he invited me to have lunch. Probably should have declined. All was fine until I took my mask off to eat. When you have laser hair removal, the dead stuff stays really dark for a week or two. I had a super hard time concealing it and he could see it. He didn't say anything, but his body language told me he could tell and it made him very uncomfortable.

But otherwise, all of my other customers have been cool.

That’s good to hear. I agree with your view of midwesterners in general.. Yeah, the facial hair removal sucks and takes forever. I always hid out for a few days after laser and I know exactly what your talking about with the redness and shedding. Electrolysis isn’t as bad but takes a lot longer.

Cassie! Congratulations on finding your courage to be yourself. This is the biggest step. Once you've found the courage, it's mostly downhill from here. Just very time consuming and often frustrating working towards whatever transitional endpoint you are hoping for.

Allie, I noticed that the EMLA numbing cream turns your face red too. Not sure what aftermath is worse.

Hugs!
