Monthly budget thread

I love seeing that there’s been some movement on the budget.

Thank you to all who have given this month. We are now less than $100 away from making the budget. And like I said ........I’m gonna match every dollar we throw in from yesterday at noon. To the final day of the month.

Now please understand I’m not doing this to shame anyone who doesn’t have any money at this point. I’m just doing it to generate money to a very worthwhile site that doesn’t make a dime, it’s only here for us. I am making an investment in all of you.

I know that many say that I am not obliged to donate, but I did do another monthly donation and do hope in the near future to do more.

@KimOct you may be the director of nagging but I don't mind a few prods to ask for donating to this wonderful group.

Yay...... we’re now only 70 bucks away. I love when the community comes together. Everybody counts. Only about 3 1/2 days left.

So here we are the last few hours to make the budget. We are currently $47 short. Which still isn’t bad there’s a pretty monster come back from just a few days ago. As I said we were $179 short in less than a week.

As promised I will match every dollar from that point on to make sure we get the budget and start the new budget in a good way. So it’s not like I was asking people to do it when I didn’t look to do it myself. And as I said before I’m not asking the ones who don’t have the money. So by my current math.

I will match the $132 straight up, PLUS... the short coming. ( let’s make it count)

Which means I will donate $179 ( I’ll make it $180, easier math)

I’ll push us over with $50 here and come back later on the new budget to donate $130 to get us started into March the right way. I love you all and I want this site to help everyone. Remember if we have differences we need to come together and figure them out nobody needs to be at odds with each other we just need to communicate.

A huge thank you to every single person who has donated this month and every month since we’ve been going. Like I said before I am not part of management I did not set up the site but there’s no doubt without it I would not be here today. So I celebrate with all of you that were successful and we’ve made budget without having to burden somebody like Katie to fill in the blanks. Also please understand I didn’t do this for adoration or a pat on the back. I did this because I truly want this site and everybody here to succeed. This is an investment in all of us. Hopefully it brings attention so next month none of us have to donate over our budget

For those who have been following this thread, we appreciate the cheerleading.

Keeping the burden off the members is a priority. While we appreciate the support, it is the sincere desire of the staff that member support would ideally not be the primary source of funding for the organization.

@RachelLynn has stepped forward to take a staff position to help secure grant funding. Rachel has a background in underwriting and has suggested some pathways to funding that we will be examining in the near future.

Thank you so much @NicoleT as @Katie said, I am looking into grant opportunities for our community. My donation this month was in the form of a membership to the society for non profit organizations, they have many useful tools including access to a large database of funding sources. Thank you everyone who contributes in any way they can, you are literal life savers

I still have the rest of my donation I promised from last month to go. I’ve held it to see what we could generate first. I love the fact that we’re thinking outside of the box and that you’re helping us with new avenues to reach people @RachelLynn .

I would like to thank all those that have donated to TransRefuge this month. Your donations are greatly appreciated. We have plans to expand our TR community with a number of different activities and resources, adding more Zoom meetings to include week days, possibly even locating local community services and shelters, but we can't do these things if we come up financially short each month. Our board members have been working together in locating and acquiring grant funding, in hopes of creating a financially self-sufficient TR community, but it has proven to be an arduous task, but until such time, we must depend on our members donations to keep TR's site, resources, and activities, open and available to all members. Again, I would like to thank those who have donated this month. TransRefuge could not exist without the help from our members.

@Donica thanks for making the post that nobody wants to make. It's tough to discuss budget and money. Nobody likes to be the person who has to do that.

I've been pretty tied up with my personal and business life to say much here about the budgetary difficulties. I did scale back marketing so that we remain solvent, but that's a decision that always hurts to make. I paid $90 earlier this week to renew our software and support licenses for another year. But it's really the marketing that consumes the most money. Search engines are very much a "pay to play" game. If you want your site to appear in the top ten results, and you don't have a million visitors per week, you have to pay for placement.

To add my opinion to this. When Katie and I were dreaming this forum up, we had grant ideas to help the trans and intersex community with a very dedicated platform for discussion and making friends . I think we achieved a big part of our goal, because the feedback we get about this forum is very positive.
We were hoping to find some form of financing for the forum (NOTE, all of us are volunteers and get not a single penny for what we are doing), and we tried different ways of financing that did not work, but we are still looking into other ways.
But in the meantime, we need money to run this outfit, and almost half of the money comes from the management team, which means, we work so you have a forum, and we pay for being able to work for you.

We currently have over 550 forum members, if each of you would donate a dollar a month, we would have our finances covered for good until we find a reliable long term solution.
Please think about this.
