I have been remiss at visiting here. I thank you all who took the time and effort to welcome me here. I know not how active a member I will be here, but I am glad that this site exists as an alternative to that other site. I wish for this place to thrive. I will do my part to pass the word onto others but most of the folks I converse with are here already.
Michelle keeps me occupied and fills most of my needs for a social life. I have gotten used to activity online at that other site. My interaction with others pretty much was curtailed there. I miss that active level of interaction there and the sharing of my own life with my many friends I had made there. I am not sure if I will ever get as involved with others online as I was there. I feel as though I lost my connections with everyone that I had there. And it is a real loss that I feel. I felt I had been "A part of" that site until I wasn't. I doubt I will ever feel like that again. I've spent so much of my life being "apart from" that I fear it is my natural state. It hurts less.
So what I am trying to say is, though I am friends, at least online, with a lot of you, I cannot say how much I will be here to participate.

Hugs,
  Laurie

Laurie, I think we all start coming to places like this and SP in a period of upheaval in our lives. We form friendships that are genuine. I don't think the test of that genuineness is whether they last forever on a continuous basis. It happens that we drift in and out of touch. I learned this early on and tried to respect it and not fight it. Perhaps the happiest outcomes are some who have their needs addressed and move on. I will always treasure the time you came to my hospital bed from clear across the country. The humor we had back and forth was awesome! I think you were hurt by the other place and I think that would have made me never want to post anywhere. But you  are here and I am so happy you are.  I'll take you on whatever basis you are comfortable with.

I’m with Laurie right now, in a Portland hospital where our girl is recovering from Gender Confirmation Surgery with Dr. Dugi.

Laurie went into surgery about 7:40 AM on June 10, and was closed and transferred to Recovery about 2:00 PM. An OR nurse called me everything two hours to keep me informed as to what Laurie’s status was. Dr Dugi called at 2:00 and gave me a rundown of how the procedure went, and met with Laurie the day after surgery to giver her the scoop.

Laurie was all closed up and brought awake in the OR, after which she was in Recovery for a couple of hours before being transferred to a hospital room. I was able to see her once she was out of Recovery and in a room. (Pandemic rules…) There were some minor complications, nothing terribly unusual and some of which the doctor had anticipated from Laurie’s medical history. Overall the procedure finished ahead of the anticipated time and Laurie should make a full, normal recovery.

Laurie is continuing to recover, and has started on solid food today (June 12) after a few bouts of nausea. She’s off the oxymorphone PCR pump, and getting Tylenol, celebrix, and low doses of oxycodone as needed. She’s sleeping right now, which makes me very happy to see. I’m staying in the room with her. Visiting is severely limited, one guest per 24 hour period, for COVID contact tracing and control purposes. (We’re negative and immunized…)

I feel like I should be in that room torturing her as she did when I had my surgery. Very happy for you Laurie. Michelle sit on her if you have to to make her behave for recovery.

Michelle that's terrific news!! Please tell her we're thinking about her. When you said that you were in a Portland hospital I was thinking that she'd had her surgery with Dr. Dugi.

I'm gonna have a ton of questions for her eventually. You see the surgeon who operates right over the river from me studied under Dr. Dugi. He said that he performs the exact same surgery.

So maybe I can eventually find out exactly how happy Laurie is with her results, so I'll know what I can expect from my surgery.

I tell ya....what a small world we live in. I'm sure you're gonna take really good care of Laurie. I hope she's back on her feet and making jokes real soon.

Congratulations Laurie, and I wish you a speedy and pain free recovery! Just watch out for any granulation tissue while you recover. I was at the end of 4 months after surgery, and I developed granulation about 3 inch deep inside the vagina. I am now recovering from cauterizing this.
One never knows what to expect with massive surgeries like this.

We’re back at home now, with Laurie resting under protest. She’s upset that I won’t let her run outside to weed and mow the lawn. I’m just trying to avoid another case where I get to treat an abdominal wound. Seeing one colon was one too much.

She’s (mostly) behaving, and I’ve applied three cats to maintain her condition and improve healing.

Tell Laurie to behave or it's the fridge with her 😉. We'll be watching 😍

It struck me reading your thread here this morning that so much good can come from forums like this. You two would never have met. The cats would be, where? Would this momentous event have happened for Laurie? So if someone new is wondering if it's worth visiting, posting on a platform such as this, do it. A lot of good can come from it. I think I'll make a contribution to this site now. As for Laurie, don't make me drive across country to hunt you down to make you rest!

Laurie just had her two-month postop visit with Dr. Dugi. She’s healing really well, is off of any medical restrictions on activity, and is keeping up with the personal care, dilations, and such. She seems happier, and I’m glad she was able to have this procedure done. I’m very impressed with Dr Dugi’s work, and with the support team at OHSU.
