The building where my office is has many businesses residing in it, and one is a salon that I have been curious about for a while. I decided last week to book a hairstyling session, and saw that eyebrow waxing was also available. Checked the boxes for both and made my appointment for today.

I arrived for my appointment and I think they get a lot of regular customers because the ladies gave me this look like I wasn’t part of some secret club or something. Or maybe they could tell that I’m butch AF and they were all way femme. Well, anyway, the lady I was supposed to be meeting with was still busy with a client and I had to wait a few minutes.

Eventually my assigned beautician made her way to the front and called for me. She started by shampooing and conditioning my hair. She did the eyebrow waxing while she let the conditioner work it’s magic.

The eyebrow waxing wasn’t nearly as bad as some reports I have seen online. I had told her it was my first time having my eyebrows waxed, and I think she took that to mean I would find it extremely painful. She kept apologizing to me for how much she thought it must be hurting. I had by this point told her that I was transgender, and as she kept apologizing profusely I told her that I have had all the hair on my face burned off with lasers without anesthetic, having my brows waxed was a walk on the park. I could do this all day long.

She finished waxing my brows and then rinsed out the conditioner. We headed over to her chair and she got to work on my mop. She snipped and chopped away. I had told her that my goal is to grow my hair longer, so I don’t want to lose any more length than is absolutely necessary to achieve a good shape. In the end I was happy with the result.

Katie, you have to be happy with your look for a first time at the salon! Did you feel more at home by the end of your session. I love having my hair done, and I do get chatty with staff and patrons! It’s a lovely experience!

Hugs,

Allie

Nice simple cut. People look at you because your new not because you’re trans. Smile chat gossip. I have threading and tinting instead but all salons closed at present

I am currently lucky, because I live with a salon owner. Sandy, my host decided that my hair needs some wotk done, and I spend part of Monday evening with curlers in my hair, to eventually look like thisView rece(1).jpg

You look great Katie. The eyebrow waxing didn't hurt me at all. In fact, I found it strangely pleasant.
