@sam who is the manufacturer? I’d be willing to contact the manufacturer for drying advice if I know who makes it. It’s a great question that deserves doing some homework.

@sam, one of the reasons for mold growth may have been you putting it into a plastic bag. It will stay moist inside the bag, and in warm temperatures that is the ideal condition for mold growth. Could you hand dry it with some paper
I think you will get a similar answer from the manufatowel, etc. prior to putting it into the bag, or just put it into the drawer and not into the bag first?

Hugs

I agree to stop storing it in the plastic bag. As for drying it, I typically just use a towel or rag and let air dry when not in use in a drawer or on a shelf. Make sure you rinse it out before storing it!

If you need a bag, I’d try finding a cloth bag that has a drawstring.

I apologize for the delay in making progress on this. I have been very busy, and also found that CalExotics is a little hard to find. A google search for their name didn't bring up a website. I had to track them down through an industry database that I use for marketing purposes in my day job.

Anyway, I found them and tried calling. No answer. So, I sent an email this afternoon requesting instructions for cleaning and storage between uses. I'll post an update when they respond.

Received an auto-reply:
Hello, Katie.

We all find ourselves in extraordinary circumstances, coming together to ensure the health and safety of our families, friends and communities as the COVID-19 pandemic continues to escalate. Our hearts go out to everyone who has been impacted by this unprecedented event.

At this time, CalExotics is following the California statewide stay-at-home order and operating with a skeleton crew.

Please note, this may delay shipments and responses to phone calls and contact requests.

The company will resume full operation as soon as it is allowed by the government.

We thank you for your patience and understanding.br>

Finally got an official answer!

Hello Katie,

Please feel free to use warm soap or water and a soft cloth as this is a silicone item.

Thank you!

Hey, I've been getting on the packing train here, too, so I have a few tips:

1.) Invest in either cornstarch or Packer Dust, but stay away from talc-based baby powder (Talcum powder has been linked to cancer) and give your stp a little sprinkle of that after a day using it. (wipe it out first though) It both keeps your stp fresh, and most of all, dry.

2.) Give it a good scrub every 2-3 days with some Dawn or simple antibacterial hand soap. That should keep out the bacteria and prevent mold. It's also going to make it smell a bit better, after using it for a while. :)

Finally, just keep it in a little plastic tub, such as a tupperware (not being used for food) without a lid, if you're worried about germs getting on the rest of the stuff in your drawer. The open top will let it dry, but the plastic surrounding it will separate your stp from the rest of your bathroom stuff. I would recommend the dollar store for a new tupperware, if you feel that's necessary, and sandwich size ones are shallow but wide, perfect to fit a packer diagonally (depending on the size of yours).

Hope all of this helps!

P.S. Packer Dust, I just looked up is cornstarch. Get just the food grade stuff, you can buy it for cheap on Amzon.
