Do you still have the cup with your name on it Tonya? That’d be an amazingly cool keepsake!
That would be a cool keepsake, but not something I thought to do.

I did almost out myself to my golf buddies due to Starbucks. About a month before I came out to them, we had a certificate for free golf at a course about an hour away from where we usually play. That meant driving up together and I brought the Starbucks for the drive, not realizing that all the cups were labeled "Tonya" since I'd already updated my name in the App. No one noticed or I would have come out to them a bit sooner than planned.

Transition and technology and timing, oh my!

I’m going to be legally changing my name soon, and have thus far managed to avoid unintentional but often unavoidable “cart before the horse” moments like the one you bumped into Tonya. Hopefully it wasn’t too stressful for you on the day, didn’t throw off your game too much, and is now one of those things that you can look back on and laugh about.

At this point, only my therapist and a few people with whom I’m very close know my chosen name. And even then, I only disclosed it very recently. Two of my closest friends will be serving as my “good faith intention” witnesses for the legal name and gender change hearing, so I had to tell them anyway.

I cannot wait to get the court order completed and make my way through the lengthy list of official notifications and formal updates. Now that my chosen name exists in the physical world, my dead name is really starting to stink. It’s well past time to cremate it, grind the ashes to the finest dust possible, and scatter them in the middle of the ocean over the Mariana Trench under cover of the darkest moonless night imaginable.

That will be a great day EV! I look forward to you posting an exerpt of your new birth certificate with Entropic Variable proudly emblazoned upon it!.

We did talk about having a document burning party on zoom, though it didn’t go well when @NicoleT took nearly 40 minutes to set her hated cap on fire.

Hugs,

Allie

So, just a little bit about me, Soren Westlock, and who I am, I guess...

I am a 26 y.o. trans man who lives with his sister, in a small Michigan town. There's a whole lot more, but I suppose I can sum it up:

Suffered from abuse and homo/transphobia since I was 13-14 by parent, due to my pansexual and transgender nature. Before I was subjected to the homophobia I was shamed since I was 3-4 for declaring I was a little boy. Calmly I was instructed I was a little girl, and I will never be a little boy.

Been through hell, tbh, but I'm beginning to see the light in the darkness. I'm beginning to have joy in my body, the more I dress/act/look the way I feel.

I'm just sort of hoping on this site to find someone who For once affirms what I'm saying, rather than recommending deep intensive therapy and/or telling me my parts are my gender, etc.

If anyone is out there, I just want to say hi, and I'm Soren.
Hello, I feel you. Welcome to you. I am transgender and my wife is a lesbian

HAH! Oh my goodness Allie – "Entropic Variable" is just my screen name. It is most certainly not my chosen name. Just wanted to clear that up for anyone who might be keeping score out there.

But I TRULY appreciate the sweet sentiment Allie! Thank you very much!

Once in a while it is nice to be an Aspy with reduced emotions. I still get junk mail with my old name on, but it does not bother me, it does not bother me if old acquaintances call me by that name or if they use the wrong pronouns. I do not need these conformations to know that I am a woman.
Any person can call me anything, as long as they are not mean about this.
Anybody could always see that I was not really a man.

It was like it had some sort of fire retardant on it or something. I really would’ve sucked as an arsonist.

But seriously though great news on your birth certificate I know when I got mine back it was a very exciting day. I look forward to all your future success. And I’m happy to talk with you about some of the stuff that I’ve been through. It’s a long journey everybody has a different one but the similarities are eerie.

Hugs
Nicole
