I just started hormones 7 weeks ago as I start this journey much later in life than I should have. After 35+ years after college I finally have a reason to care about my body and I am so driven to make myself into the best woman possible. I have already lost 50 lbs since mid February 2021 and want to loose another 20 lbs to get to under 160 as my final goal. I honestly look like a completely different person and can't wait for what hormone changes will bring.

I am in search for local people to make friends with, go shopping, go out to eat etc.

Online wise, I am hoping you might be interested to share some of your experience with me, particularly about hormone changes as you start later in life and what works and what doesn't.

Hello AshleyGison, welcome here with us. I admire your weight loss, but it is great that you do that prior to taking estrogen! Estrogen makes fat to stick to your body like super glue. I try for almost a year to lose 20 pounds!
What works and what not works is different with every person. You have to try this out with your doctor, and don't self medicate. You can do more damage than good with self medication!
Healthy, protein rich nutrition helps to support your body, and at some point you doctor will prescribe you estrogen and an androgen blocker, most of the time that is spironolactone (spiro).
If you want to have surgical changes done, you need to follow the WPATH recommendations, and should work with a gender therapist.
If you want to get bottom surgery, you can look around for surgeons already, who would accept your insurance; and if you want a legal name and gender change, you should learn what is required in your state,

This is a short synopsis, and at different stages, you can ask the member here for more detail.
I am living fulltime as a female for a while (including surgery), and am at the end of the path, you are just starting.
I wish you lots of luck and fun becoming the woman you want to be!

Hi Ashley, and Welcome!

I'm new to TR myself, although I first came out pretty much globally in 2019. Due to an emergency with an immediate family member, a couple of unexpected health issues of my own during and after the family emergency, and then the pandemic, I've only been on HRT for 11 weeks now myself. I'm 57 and worked to lose about 35 pounds gradually over about a year prior to starting HRT, so we certainly have some things in common. I've also noticed that there are quite a few trans women here who are roughly our age, so you should be able to find lots of experience that is generationally relevant to ours.

The effects of HRT are gradual and take time. Everyone's body responds a little differently, and at different rates. And as Linde mentioned, medical supervision and periodic blood tests are absolutely essential.

In the short time that I've been at TR, I've been really impressed with how friendly and supportive everyone is, and I'm still discovering all of the great resources that are available here.

It is never too late to live your truth!

Namaste Friend.

Hi @AshleyGison
Welcome to TR. There is a lot of knowledge here and everybody is friendly. I lam about 25 lbs lighter than this time last year without any hormones other than what the adrenals produce. It is definitely easier to do before HRT!

I'm sorry I haven't welcomed you sooner @Entropic Variable. I have been rather preoccupied this past week. I am glad you are here.

Hugs,
Mike

Hi Ashley, I'm in awe of the weight loss and yeah, something about living our truth makes you want to care about your body more. Welcome to TR, we have all the answers here until we get stumped with something! Then we ask Kim and do the opposite. Hope you stick around, share, vent, rearrange the furniture! Make yourself ta home! Oh, I'm Moni as in Astee Spo-Moni without the 't.'

Thanks Mike!

I've been looking forward to getting to swap replies with you as well, because you seem so amazingly Cool and Nice. But every time I come across one of your Groovy messages, it's buried so deeply in a thread with like 3,000 replies that I'm trying to catch up on and I start to feel my poor little brain short out, and......Zzzzzzzzzzzzz..................

Howdy! YAY! I finally did it!

[...] Oh, I'm Moni as in Astee Spo-Moni without the 't.'

Or...in perhaps slightly less phonetically byzantine terms...rhymes with Ms. Raitt's first name, NOT Mr. Idol's most famous jam:

Can you dig it? Of course you can.

We now rejoin Ashley's thread already in progress...
