Did she say why she does not want a video appointment? Can you try to change this by telling her how difficult and dangerous it is for you to travel to her location? Use similar examples you just made here.
Good luck!

Does she realize what kind of hardship it means for you? If she does not care, you might want to look for a different doc, because this one will not care for anything else either.

It seems unreasonable not to accommodate a virtual meeting when transportation to and from the appointment is so challenging. I'm surprised that she is unwilling to make this accommodation.

i was supposed to go back down to the clinic on monday for my psych assesment but since it is so difficult, the icy weather and the fact my country is in full lockdown again my mum tried one last time to contact the therapist. she is still incisting on a face to face appointment but she messaged my therapist and even though he has a designated psycologist he talked to another and she agreed to see my on skype. im just waiting for her to contact me with a date.

also, i had the nurses come over for a second try taking my bloods (the first time not only was she an hour late as she hadnt been told she was supposed to come, this was annoying as i had numbing cream on to make sure it wouldnt trigger my condition so there was a tine limit, but she couldnt find any veins, she got the vascular nurse to come and she couldnt find a vein), this time the vascular nurse came with the nurse that was the best at taking blood and the managed to find one vein and that vein was sideways, no wonder they couldnt find it the first time, even that vein was narrow so if she moved a milimeter it would stop. while they were doing it i also felt a tic coming on in that arm (i have a condition that mimics tourettes) and i only just managed to hold it in until the needle was out. everyone, including my gp was shocked that they couldnt find a vein the first time.

Goodness, this should have been the first option! Sam, I'm glad to see you're getting some traction with these people. I can't understand why some people just can't understand the benefits of online meeting, especially given the circumstances.

I am happy to hear that they finally agreed with an online session. I do these all the time with my providers, and as long as no physical interaction is required, it is as good as any face to face meeting!
In fact, I have already a postop zoom meeting scheduled with my endocrinologist and a psychologist. That should not either be a big deal for them over where you live!
Your veins suck big time, I am the opposite I have gigantic veins all over my limbs, I am a delight for everybody who wants to poke a needle into my body!

I hope everything goes well for you!

Very exciting news, @sam ! I'm glad that they are being a little more accommodating and are helping rather than hindering.

not only do i have the normal worry/fear but i have PTSD caused by doctors/hospitals (the reason i am only just doing this at 26 as i had no way to go private and going through the NHS would mean going to the hospital which would be impossible, i cant even go to my gp because of this as well as my poor health so people come to my house, as well as seeing someone that is part of the reason i have PTSD, there is also no gender clinic in the northern half of my country so someone comes to my city once a month, and for as far as i know for 1 day, and i have heard awfull things about the gender clinic in my city) so im desperatly hoping the gp i will be going to does not look/sound/smell medical so it doesnt trigger flashbacks, from the outside it looks good.

i also have a problem where since my brain is constantly overactive and doing everything it shouldnt (as well as autism and cerebral palsy i have CRPS and FND), it randomly shuts down to reset itself which makes me fall asleep randomly. this lasts between a few minuits (although it is rarely this short) and 4 hours so if i dont fall asleep before we leave or on the 2 hour long drive i could fall asleep during the appointment.
I treated it like a business meeting
My friend briefed me on the 5 key phrases they want to hear then I made sure I said them convincingly. Tears help too. I know this sound fake but it gets what you want
They are slightly fixed in their ideas as I was 57 and they were asking me about being at school and I said that was 50 years ago you seriously think I can remember. They are slightly tick box questions
Hence your primed answers
Good luck xx

yeah, its tough. this time i almost fell asleep (my brain basically gives up and puts me to sleep to reset me) but somehow i managed to stop it happening till after the call.
