i have a voice in my head and it is fixing on telling me that if i go on t (24 days until my first gender clinic appointment) that my relationship with my dogs and i am really worried that it is right.

my dogs are my world (same with my gecko but she is a gecko so i will always just be a tree to her), skipper is really my mums pup but i think of him as my hairy little brother and missy, who is my pup, is like my baby. they are everything to me. missy even helps with my health problems. when i am upset she is really concerned and gives me snuggles and gives me kisses and brings me her toy duck that is basically her puppy and means a lot. she also knows how to deal with my seizures, she knows how to bring me round and since she started sleeping with me my nightime seizures have been a lot better.

Dogs are amazing animals, and they will know you are changing physically, but if you keep spending time with them and not show agression around them, they will remain loyal to you. You will smell different, and that will be the first thing they notice, but just spend quality time with them and they will adapt.

Hugs,

Allie

Allie is right. Plus your smell won't change that fast that it will confuse them. You'll gradually take on a different smell so they'll know it's you the whole time. My dog hasn't had any issues with the way I smell...she still ignores me when I want to cuddle with her. lol

I had a large dog until last fall, and I live with 7 cats. Neither of these animals reacted different with me. The dog was my companion throughout my transition form a man to a woman. She was always as loving as ever.

I also smell different and I know my dog knows, but she has not acted any different with me at all.

If you stayed away from your dog during transition, they may not recognise you when they saw you again. I have read of this happening when transition caused a marriage breakup, but there was some reconciliation a couple of years later. Dogs will see a difference but their scent ability is just starting to be understood. Did you know a dog accurately smells the time of day? They learn the different atmospheric conditions throughout the day and can accurately know the time by how the air smells!

Dogs are really smart, so if you are with them during transition, they will learn your new smell, and be faithful to it, after all, when they smell that time of day, and you, food is coming!

Hugs,

Allie

My cat has not cared much about it. She still attacks me in the dark. But cats are more...instinct than thought.

Dogs are more thinking creatures.

I’ve had 4 dogs and 3 cats since I was 16.

I personally don't think my animals have noticed at all. They still recognize me and are comfortable around me :)
