I knew my employer was super supportive with my transition, as we have a Diverstity and Inclusion team, but when they were detailing all the things they would do to assist my transition, they mentioned paid leave, but I thought they meant as part of my regular annual leave. My payroll officer just let me know I will be getting 4 weeks paid Gender Transition Leave to cover some of my time off post GRS!!! How good is that!

Hugs,

Allie

Glory be Australia, where the laws are humane, and consider that they are there to support humanity and not some big corporations.

That is fantastic Allie!!! As Linde said, I doubt many organizations here do that.

I had a boss once that did things outside of the rule book sometimes to help employees, but he never paid 20 days for anything.

Hugs,
Mike

As usual Mike, it is a double edged sword, as our employers do not pay insurance, so. if we don't want to wait in our public healh system, we need to pay ourselves. I am more encouraged as our employment agreement acknowledged Trans people and their need for Gender Transition! I think this reflects an inclusive society.

Hugs,

Allie

Wow! That makes my EBA (Enterprise Bargaining Agreement) look pretty sad! No mention at all. Although how close did you come to missing out because of cause (b)? Looking at the WPATH guidelines, it would be quite easy to find one waiting too long for surgery and missing out on the leave.
Cheers,
-Kenna

Yes Kenna, as I didn't know about this, and my official transition date at work was the 14th April, I could have missed out! I might need to find out who is the person who writes these and point out the WPATH rules for GCS require a year RLT before GRS!

Allie

I'd probably start with the Diversity and Inclusion team and suggest that 104 weeks would probably achieve what was originally intended. You can delegate this one! ;)

Ya, most companies with their headquarters based in "Red" states in the USA generally don't even have specific wording keeping them from being able to legally discriminate against someone based on their gender identity or sexual preference (i.e., trans or gay/bi/pan, etc.). I don't even get specified leave to deal with my divorce, much less a major surgery not recognized as necessary by whatever state their company uses legal standing from.
I suspect I'll just have to figure out a "sabbatical" style leave, where I kindly quit with expressed intents to return, on the excuse I have needed medical care that the company just won't agree to. There, I guess I'll have to save up a small UBI for myself during that time. But, I've got quite a ways before I have to go there.
Cheers, all the same, Allie!
