I'm not sure if it's fixable with the current software, but will be addressed next week with the software update.

1) In the message editor, is there any way to make the font bigger? I'm an old lady, and I don't like having to whip out my reading glasses to reply to a post.
[member=399]Maybebaby56[/member] Terri, are you using a PC or a phone?  If it's a PC (well Windows anyway) simply holding the CTRL key and pressing the plus or minus keys adjusts the size.

A trivial gripe I have with the current site is that when I click on Go Up I always have to give a single extra scroll up to get the the line that allows me to navigate to the top or some intermediate site.

Katie, I love the site and all the work you all have done....but just one little irritant. Every time I log in I have to do it twice, the first try always says the system has a problem and the second time gets me in. Is this fixable?

Tia, are you using MS Edge for Windows 10? I brought this up last month. I am also still having to log in twice. I found that I can click the login button before entering any details to allow the error message to come up, and then the second time I fill in my details and it works. Katie thinks it may be some differences in web browsers? I am using MS Edge. I will try to log in using Chrome to see if I still have this issue.

Ok, I just logged out using MS Edge and Logged in again using Google Chrome with success the first time. So I suspect it's an issue with MD Edge in Windows 10?

@Donica and @Tia these issues should be resolved this week with the software change. SMF is an old open source platform and everything about it from the foundational code to the plugins are developed by enthusiasts who have been keeping the software alive for many years after the original software company went belly up. Once you start adding in plugins, all developed by enthusiasts who did not design their plugins specifically to work with all other plugin combinations and browsers, it can be very hard to pinpoint the source of a problem.

This was the determining factor in my decision to invest in a commercial software that is still actively being developed, improved, and supported by a real staff of professional engineers and developers. Everything from the software itself to the site style template is warranted and supported by a real support team.

In addition to solving the multiple login issues and browser incompatibilities, there will also be new login options to make logging in more convenient.

Thinking about the coming software upgrade and my participation on the forum, I've been reminded that I am pretty suspicious of the increasingly widespread use of facial recognition software.  While I'm not currently aware of any serious abuses of it in Western societies it seems to me that it is only a matter of time.  While I've nothing that really needs hiding, my suspicion and discomfort (paranoia?) remains.  Would it be possible to limit the visibility of photos (just selected ones, or all) to members only?  The existing medical images section is another level of appreciated privacy.  It obviously wouldn't be tight security but it would get in the way of some automated scanning, and add a little comfort. It would probably also require local hosting of images.
  Thanks,
-Kenna

Hi, [member=133]Kenna[/member] ,
I'll see what can be done. I'm not sure if that requires making the entire site "members only" to view.

As far as I know, the images are hosted on an independent system, and we put only the links into the forum.  My pictures are all on Imgur, and the forum pulls them from there.  I don't know if this would be the case if a robot snoops around here.

@Linde makes a good point. The spiders and bots crawling on sites like this would be using the information available from the image hosting site that you use to post your images (Imgur, Tapatalk, etc.). Without having thoroughly read through the user agreements of each image hosting site, we can't be sure what information that Google, Yahoo, Yandex, etc. can access from your images.

But this week I will see what options we have for image security. If it can be managed separately from the text, then I will make sure to enable what protections may exist.

Thanks [member=3]Katie[/member]  :) I'd assumed that for that security feature to work that images would have to be hosted locally, probably within the database, which makes most sense to me, but thinking some more, I wonder if links to external sites can be limited to members only, however that could upset links to sites such as news or other useful stuff.  Not being sure how other sites store images, would links to only external .jpg files be a possibility?  In any case any limitations would have to be at each member's discretion on a per image basis.

Yes, but that increases the size of everything on the screen. I only want to increase the size of the font inside the text editor so I can see it better. You can see how much smaller the quoted text is in this response.

I guess this legally prohibits republishing the without permission, but it sure does not prevent people from seeing them. You can still google "Dr. Zukowski FFS" images and see the pictures of me that I posted on Susan's over three years ago.

The new software allows for editing of text size inside the text editor window. You change the font, size, color, and other formatting of each and every letter or character in your post.

Yes, once it's posted, it displays the changed font size, but not while you are using the editor.

In the new software it displays live as you are writing, and exactly how you write the post is how it is published.

While the "Welcome to Transrefuge!" banner is great on the Home page, is it necessary on all pages? I'm rapidly tiring of scrolling past it on every page I visit here. On my laptop it takes about 2/3 of the screen and on my desktop about 1/3. Is a smaller version possible on other pages, or none at all? There's the fixed heading on all pages that identifies the site.

@Kenna I am not sure that the theme template can be modified to do that.

Katie! I was thinking it would be nice if we still had the "GO DOWN" and "GO UP" buttons to help navigate the longer pages. Sorry for the repetition of posting the same question in your blog.
