Having only very recently started to come out, I feel very strongly that I need to do something to ‘make it real’ so I have decided to get a tattoo. This sounds like a very cautious step but I want something permanent (for now) that will let me know that I have acknowledged I’m trans and started to emerge. I literally have zero tattoos atm so am nervous about it! 😬 I was thinking of a very feminine butterfly tattoo on my ankle (easy to keep covered until I’m fully out) and I’ve seen some really nice ones online. Did anyone else do something ‘real’ at the start of their journey? And did it help? Simone xx

Simone, you and @Lexxi have something in common as she has been considering a tattoo the declare she is trans. I am more along the lines if getting something feminine you will be proud of well after you have passed your transition stage!

Well, after I started to live full time as a woman, I finally gave myself permission to like tattoos (nice ones, not crazy ones). A friend of mine who designs tattoos designed on specifically for me to be put onto my right ankle.
I also have an ugly scar on my upper right side breast, and I had this covered with a sunflower. Other tattoos I have are very feminine, I had eye liner tattooed on and had my eyebrows microbladed.
The second pic is the design for my tattoo on the leg. It is almost a foot tall

Hi @Just Simone ,

@OzGirl is right...I would really like to get another tattoo and I was thinking about getting one that celebrates my transness. I know that it's highly unlikely that I'll ever be able to fully pass, so I thought why not show people that I'm proud to be me and embrace that I'm trans.

I was thinking about maybe getting a tat of a cocoon split open on the ground and a beautiful butterfly with rainbow colored wings flying up from it. I would also have to figure out a way to include the trans flag colors in there somehow too. The only thing bad about that though is I'm not a big fan of sky blue or pale pink, so I might change the colors to hot pink and a pretty blue, lol.

I've also been playing around with maybe getting one of a really pretty hummingbird instead. Those tiny birds hold a special place in my heart. The hummingbird would still have rainbow colored wings though.

One of these days I'll make up my mind which one I'm going to get...but I will definitely be getting something. Let me know when you choose your design I'd love to see it.

So good to hear your thoughts Lexxi. I hadn’t thought of the trans flag colors, that’s a great idea! Will definitely let you all see the result once I get it done. S.

Love those tattoos Linde. It must be so nice to have your own unique design. Xx

That’s good advice but I’m so impatient! Thanks so much Allie. Lexxi posted a reply, it was nice to hear her plans. Xx

Use some caution. Do not get any tattoo you might want years or decades later. While the trans flag might seem like a novel idea, you might not want that after you are post op and looking for a partner. Choose wisely.

A butterfly on a rose is always feminine and very pretty when done right, but I wouldn't get one the length of my leg.
Thank you Sarah, that is good advice. I will choose carefully when I get it done and make it something that’s part of my transition. Love the idea of incorporating a rose! S. X

If I ever got a tattoo, it would be a pixie. Maybe a pooka!

Oh, that would be good! I’m sure there are some great examples out there. 🧚‍♀️ Xx
