Thanks Kenna, Mike, and Donica! I actually had second thoughts after I posted this like, "Was I being too preachy? Was I acting like I think I'm above it?" Haha, I appreciate your responses reassuring me a bit. @KimOct (whose soapbox I borrowed for this, hee hee) can testify to me getting in the fray a few times. I turn green and my clothes shred to pieces, wreckage of army tanks all over the neighborhood, not pretty! Anyway, nothing bothers me more than seeing two people I really like, squabbling over something and getting hurt feelings from something really minor. (Seen it in forums for years, not talking something specific now, k?) It could be over something like a word used. Me, I would want any ruckus I'm in, settled in a PM. But yeah, not trying to get preachy. As far as the other part, diversity, well I generally like this place as a sounding board for people to tell their experiences. Thank you to the creators and staff of the site. You get an A+ from me. Okay, I'll shut up now. Go back to what I do best, act like I was dropped on my head as a baby! (Gosh, there's a softball for somebody!)
Love to all!

Thankfully, the elements which inspired this thread have moved on, but we have grown by over 300 members since then, and it is appropriate to remind everyone that the priority of this forum is to respect others. We do very little moderation here, thanks to our awesome members, but we will act if we see disrespect to others. We have developed a caring communirty of people who are there for each other, this is the strength of TransRefuge, and what we want to preserve and develop.

Those disruptive elements have vowed to revisit this site to cause trouble, and we have had to eject them a couple of times. We will be vigiant for their return, but also for any new disrespectful or disruptive behaviour,. Having said that, we do have members with challenges, and who may not realise they are posting inappropriate things which can upset others. These people need support as well, so at times we may ask for members to try to recognise this, and give others a little latitude without getting upset. We do have to find balance to maintain this caring community!

Hugs,

Allie

@Moni, thank you for breathing life back into this thread. I struggle with civility a lot (I'm sure most of you know). Reading threads like this help me to overcome my own shortcomings. I know I still have a long way to go myself. It is not my nature to harm others, and it hurts me deeply if I even think I might have done so. I proofread many times before clicking the send button, and then have to go back and edit at least 4 or 5 more times. Sadly, I often still get it wrong. Dang girl, how'd you get to be so smart?

Donica There are several people that can confirm the truth of the following statement.

I always say that you have good intentions and are a nice person. :)

It's not Donica we worry about, KIM! lol

Donica, text is easy to misinterpret. Heck, I remember there being a sentence used as an example in school. Depending on the emphasis one uses, the same sentence can have multiple meanings.

For example, "Let's eat, kitty" is much different than "let's eat kitty".

Punctuation is key. There certainly have been both funny, and terribly wrong misunderstandings, due to a misplaced comma. I'm probably over using them at the moment haha.

On a transgender website, yeah, periods are an issue. Have them, don't want them, want them, don't have them! Question marks are much more appropriate! Got a big need for them!
