This is for any veterans that we have on TR.

I have been asked by the phycologist at the VA Clinic I go to, to give a 20 minute presentation to the VA staff in my area (most of Southwest Florida) on issues effecting transgender veteran health care as part of a one hour session regarding LGBTQ and minority issues in the health care setting.

It turns out that the phycologist that I had counseling sessions with, to deal mainly with the emotional issues of losing my wife, is a lesbian and she was very supportive of me and my transgender issues. She was instrumental in asking my VA primary care doctor to write the letter that I am being treated for transgender transition for my legal name change and gender markers on government ID and Social Security.

She will talk for 20 minutes on LGB and she also asked a Native American, Eagle Feather, to fill the remaining 20 minutes.

I have had very good treatment at the clinic that I go to in Naples and so most of my input will be positive. Everyone there knows me and I get lots of "Hi Miss Donna'" when I walk in. My doctor is all in on my treatment and when they did not have an endo that was comfortable with transgender care, they let me go to a non-VA endocrinologist that does have transgender care experience and the VA is paying for it.

I would like to hear from you as to your experience with the VA as a transgender person. How they treat you personally and how good they are at treating you with trans issues.

I would appreciate any help I can get as I think I don't have enough to talk for 20 minutes, and I will make sure they know that I got input from other veterans and whatever detail you give me. As I don't know last names, I would use your first name to give the information more credibility.

Thank you for any help you may give me.
